Most of the girls on this team have been playing together since grade 6. They are all seniors now and most will move on to university and college next year and this will be the last year they play as a team. Coach Rick Morton starting talking that we should go down to the Dominican as a team and play some basketball and do some humanitarian work while we are there. With help from him and his wife Lucy, all the girls and their parents and teacher Jenny McConnell fund raising started and before we knew it we were headed to the Dominican.
One of the main reasons we picked Sun Village was because its connection to Canada. The Elliott's that run the foundation are from Waterdown which is not far from Hamilton. Elliott's had the resort and a charity foundation so it covered all that we wanted to do.
With the connections in Canada (Rita Keeler) we hooked up with you and with your help we had everything organized and it was great. We came equipped with school supplies for the kids; medicines for the hospital; t-shirts and basketballs for the girl’s teams and big hearts.
I did not get pictures from the hospital visit which has still left us speechless on the conditions and has made us appreciate what we have in Canada so much more. Thanks for all your help in working with us to arrange all these visits.
