Olga floods strand 4000 families near Cabarete

When sub tropical storm Olga blew through the Dominican Republic early December, all eyes were on
the the Taveras dam, that was opened with little or no warning, causing tragedy in the city of Santiago.
Overlooked was the area of Sabaneta de Yasica, just east of Cabarete where some 4000 families lost
everything as a result of the Sabaneta River overflowing its banks.

Quick to respond was Mario Magnan, Director of the Velero Beach Resort, who after visiting the area
sent out a plea for help and rallied to organize relief.

The Elliott Foundation responded with a delivery of supplies that included clothing, food items,
personal care items, blankets, pillows, towels and 140 pair of crocs.
